What a month actually costs
Parallel plans are a flat fee for unlimited minutes on one lane; metered plans charge for the minutes you use. For one lane of Android testing:
| Minutes a month | Phonebox | AWS Device Farm | BrowserStack or Sauce Labs (annual) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 (a few checks a day) | $30 | $85 | $199 |
| 2,000 (an agent check on most PRs) | $120 | $340 | $199 |
| 5,000 (a busy CI lane) | $300 | $850, or $250 for an unmetered slot | $199 |
Phonebox costs less than a $199 parallel up to about 3,300 minutes a month. Above that, a flat parallel or an unmetered slot wins on price, and you get iOS and thousands of models with it.
When an AI agent does the testing
A device farm is built for a test suite: coverage across models and a clean device on every run. An agent needs something else: one phone it can read, act on and come back to, with your test account still signed in.
- State: public devices on BrowserStack, TestMu AI, Sauce Labs and AWS are cleaned between sessions, so the agent signs in again every run. A parked Phonebox phone keeps the app, its data and its sign-ins.
- MCP access: Sauce Labs' hosted MCP server authenticates with your username and access key, and its docs say device control is limited to private devices, a paid add-on. TestMu AI's hosted server uploads apps and reads results but doesn't drive a device. Phonebox's MCP server controls the phone on every account.
- What the agent reads: Phonebox returns the screen as a numbered list of elements with their text, so a report quotes what the app showed.

- A large regression suite on many real models, or iOS: BrowserStack, TestMu AI or Sauce Labs, priced per parallel.
- Occasional runs, pay as you go: AWS Device Farm or Google's Developer Device Platform, which replaces Firebase Test Lab.
- Virtual devices you script over ADB: Genymotion SaaS.
- An AI agent testing your Android app: Phonebox. Many teams keep a device cloud for the suite and add Phonebox for the agent.

Read the screen before every action. Report anything that looks broken,
with the screen text you saw. Park the phone when you finish.Phonebox is Android only and doesn't expose ADB, so keep a device cloud for iOS and instrumentation suites.
Questions
What is the best alternative to BrowserStack?
It depends on the job. TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest) and Sauce Labs are the closest like-for-like device clouds at about $199 per parallel a month billed annually. AWS Device Farm charges $0.17 per device-minute. For AI agents testing an Android app, Phonebox gives each agent a persistent cloud Android phone over MCP at $0.06 a minute.
Is there a cheaper alternative to BrowserStack?
Below about 3,300 minutes a month, metered options cost less than a $199 parallel: Phonebox and Genymotion SaaS at $0.06 a minute, Google's Developer Device Platform in preview, and AWS Device Farm at $0.17 a minute. Above that, a flat parallel plan is usually cheaper.
What is a good BrowserStack alternative for AI agent testing?
For an AI agent that tests an Android app, Phonebox fits better than a device farm: a hosted MCP server with full device control on every account, phones that keep the test account signed in between runs, and $0.06 a minute billed per second with no plan.
Does Sauce Labs have an MCP server?
Yes. Sauce MCP is hosted and authenticates with your username and access key. As of October 2026, its docs say mobile device control is limited to private devices through the Real Device Access API, a paid add-on.
Which BrowserStack alternatives have an MCP server?
As of October 2026: TestMu AI (hosted, for uploads and results), Sauce Labs (hosted, device control on private devices), Kobiton (hosted) and Phonebox (hosted, with full device control on every account). BrowserStack has its own local and hosted MCP servers.
