Reproduce Android bug reports with an AI agent, and get a video of the repro.
The task to paste
Reproduce the bug in the ticket below on my Phonebox phone.
Install the latest debug APK, start a screen recording with
phonebox record, then follow the steps. Read the screen before every action.
If it reproduces, stop the recording, pull it to repro.mp4 and write the
exact steps with the screen text you saw. If it doesn't, say which step
went differently. Park the phone when you finish.
<paste the ticket here>The agent reads each screen as numbered text elements before it acts, so its steps quote what the app actually showed, not what the ticket assumed.
What the agent runs
With a shell, the agent records through the CLI. A recording costs nothing beyond the phone's running time, and Phonebox keeps it for 7 days.
phonebox record start --name "bug 4471 repro" # prints rec_…
phonebox open com.example.shop
phonebox look
# …the steps from the ticket…
phonebox record stop rec_8m2q6k4v3t
phonebox record pull rec_8m2q6k4v3t repro-4471.mp4Some phones can't record; the CLI says so, and the agent falls back to screenshots with phonebox screenshot.
Hand the phone to the developer
The phone stays in the state where the bug appeared. Park it to keep it that way for free, or create a live link so the developer can look for themselves:
phonebox live --expires 30m # a link a teammate opens in the browserAnyone with the link controls the phone until it expires, so send it only to your team, over a private channel.
Questions
Can an AI agent reproduce a bug report on Android?
Yes. A coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor connected to a Phonebox cloud Android phone can install the build, follow the steps in the ticket while reading the screen, record the screen with the CLI, and report the exact steps and what it saw.
How long are recordings kept?
Phonebox keeps each recording for 7 days after it starts, and a project holds up to 20. Download the MP4 with phonebox record pull to keep it longer, for example in the ticket.
